Men’s Golf Tied for Seventh Place after First Round of Bearcat Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. – With darkness bringing play to a halt midway through the day's second round, the Anderson University men's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place following first round action at the Bearcat Classic Monday, which is being hosted at the par-72 6,800 yard, Stoney Point Golf Club layout.

"We had a late start due to frost, so we only got 29-30 holes done before dark," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "Jake (Miller) and Anthony (Sutton) shot even par rounds to lead our team. A few particular holes and pins were playing tough and took a toll as we started the second round. I am hoping we can start fresh tomorrow and get some momentum going our way as we finish the tournament."

Newberry and Barton are atop the team leaderboard at the two-day, 54-hole tourney, with Lincoln Memorial one shot off the pace in third and West Georgia just one stroke further back in fourth place following the first round. Georgia College and Young Harris hold the fifth and sixth slots, respectively, with Anderson, Flagler and the host Bearcats deadlocked in seventh place.

Carson-Newman and Mount Olive are tied for 10th, with Belmont Abbey and Lander (B) sharing 12th place. Erskine, Lenoir-Rhyne, North Greenville, Southern Wesleyan, Coker, Catawba, King, Emmanuel and Lander (C) rounded out the 22-team field.
Erskine's Alberto Dominguez (67) leads Lincoln Memorial's Cade Preston (68) and Young Harris' Peter Chung (68) by one shot in the battle for individual honors.

Senior Jake Miller and sophomore Anthony Sutton led the Trojans with even-par 72s in the first round, with the duo sharing 23rd place. Freshman Daniel Coker carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 39th, while freshman Calahan Keever posted a 3-over 75 and sits in a tie for 51st place. Sophomore Reece Coleman is tied for 75th following an opening round 77.

The second round is slated to wrap up Tuesday morning, with the third and final round to follow later Tuesday.
