Men’s Golf Opens Fall Slate with First-Place Finish at Matt Dyas Invitational; Sutton Wins Individual Honors

VILLA RICA, Ga. – Anderson University sophomore Anthony Sutton used a three-round, 4-under–par 212 to win West Georgia's Matt Dyas Invitational, while pacing the Trojans to a 13-stroke victory on Tuesday.

The two-day, 54-hole event was hosted by the Wolves at the 6,862 yard, par-72 Mirror Lake Golf Club.

"We are really excited to get the win today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "The conditions were a little more difficult today but the guys hung in there and posted a solid score. We are especially proud of Anthony Sutton for getting his first collegiate individual victory. I hope we can build on this momentum when we play again in two weeks down in Alabama."

The Trojans claimed their season-opener by a comfortable margin over runner-up Delta State, with fellow South Atlantic Conference-member Newberry claiming third place. The host Wolves finished three strokes further back in fourth place, while Montevallo moved up one spot and finished fifth.
Mississippi College slipped to sixth and Emmanuel rounded out the field in seventh place.

Sutton fired a final-round 1-over-par 73 to earn his first collegiate victory by three strokes over Newberry's Tom Bueschges, who made a late run with a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday. AU freshman Calahan Keever carded a 5-over-par 77 in the final round, but held on to finish in third place. Delta State's Mitchell Fifer and West Georgia's Jake Brennan finished one stroke further back in a tie for fourth place.
