Miller Named 2020 SAC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University's Jake Miller has been voted the 2020 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

Miller, a senior business management major, has a 3.80 GPA. The Anderson, S.C., native was also the recipient of the AU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award at last month's Honors Celebration.

"I am so excited that Jake has been named the SAC Scholar Athlete of the Year," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "Jake has been an extremely important part of our team's success over the past four years. He has had multiple top-10 finishes and earned his way onto several All-Tournament teams as well as All-Conference designations. Besides his fine play, Jake is an extremely competitive player and a very focused young man. His strong work ethic helps him not only on the course but in the classroom as well. I know Jake will represent the SAC well as their Scholar Athlete of the Year."

Miller was second on the team with a 72.60 unadjusted stroke average through 15 rounds this season, while owning a pair of fifth-place finishes – at the AU Invitational and at the North Georgia Fall Invitational. He finished sixth at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate and claimed eighth place at Lincoln Memorial's Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate in February, while firing a season-low 68 in the opening round of Donald Ross Intercollegiate. He also carded a pair of 69s at the North Georgia Fall Invitational.

He has garnered All-South Atlantic Conference accolades twice during his career and was named to the 2018 South Atlantic Conference All-Tournament Team, while earning all-tournament recognition in five career tournaments.

During his junior campaign, Miller equaled his career-best with a season-low 67 on three occasions and finished no lower than 18th during the season, while notching seven top-15 finishes, including four top-10 outings. As a sophomore, he posted four top-25 finishes, including a runner-up finish at SAC Tournament.

Off the course, Miller has served as a member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honorary Society. He has volunteered as a youth counselor at Trinity United Methodist Church and has helped as a volunteer at Anderson Interfaith Ministry food pantry, split firewood for those in need in the community and with the team as they helped paint at Foothills Child Advocacy Center.

Miller joins fellow Trojan standouts Emily Conlin and Alexy Mollenhauer as winners of the SAC Scholar-Athlete Award In their respective sports.
