Trojan Golf Teams Earning National Recognition

ANDERSON, S.C. – In the midst of successful seasons on both sides, the Anderson University men's and women's golf team are each capturing national recognition, with both squads earning spots in the most recent Golfstat national rankings, as released on Tuesday.

After finishing as runners-at the Low Tide Intercollegiate earlier this week, the women's team leapt to No. 6 nationally, marking the first time in program history that the Trojans have cracked the Top-10 on the national stage.

In the highly-competitive South Atlantic Conference, the Trojans trail just fourth-ranked Limestone in the Golfstat rankings.

Prior to finishing second in Charleston, the Trojans posted three consecutive third place finishes that stretched over their fall slate into the spring.

Through the four tourneys, freshman Jessica Rathbone has posted AU's low score (71) and paces the squad with a 74.50 unadjusted stroke average. The Montpelier, Va., native has three top-10 finishes this year, including a share of second place at the Low Tide Intercollegiate. Junior Victoria Hall owns a 76.30 unadjusted stroke average and has finished eighth, 11th and 13th in three of AU's outings. Classmate Kerington Lamb has a 76.90 stroke average through 10 rounds and has three top-25 finishes this year, while finishing second earlier this week.

The Trojan men's team is ranked 23rd nationally and trails just No. 2 Lincoln Memorial, Limestone (No. 15) and Wingate (No. 22) from the South Atlantic Conference.

Anderson has notched a win at the Matt Dyas Invitational and also owns a third-place, a fourth-place and a 12th-place finish so far this year.

Sophomore Reece Coleman leads a balanced squad with a 71.36 stroke average through four tournaments and has finished in the top-10 in three of those events, while equaling the school record with a 64 in the first round of the Spring Kick-off Intercollegiate in mid-February. Freshman Calahan Keever owns a 72.09 unadjusted stroke average and not finished lower than 21st through four tourneys. The Greenville native posted a third-place finish at the season-opening Matt Dyas Invitational in mid-October. Sophomore Anthony Sutton has a 72.88 stroke average and won the Matt Dyas Invitational by three strokes.

The men's team is slated to compete in next week's Lander Bearcat Classic, while the women are scheduled to get back on the links at the Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial, March 15-16.
