CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Anderson University women's basketball team went through a brisk 55-minute practice Thursday morning in preparation for Friday's 1 p.m. NCAA Division II East Regional quarterfinal game against West Liberty State. "I think our preparation for the tournament has been good," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "I believe that we're focused, excited, and ready to play." Anderson, 26-4 overall, is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, which is being played at the Hill Gym on the campus of the University of Charleston. Anderson is playing in its third consecutive NCAA Tournament after winning its third straight CVAC Tournament championship. The Lady Trojans are led by East Region team members LaShonda Chiles and Deidra Langston. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 junior from Greenwood, S.C., is second in the nation in scoring at 23.5 points per game. Langston, a 5-10 junior from Gainesville, Ga., averages 18.0 points per game. Anderson leads the nation in scoring at 83.7 points per game. West Liberty State, the No. 6 seed, is 24-6 after losing to Glenville State 69-52 in the semifinals of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. West Liberty State is returning to the NCAA Tournament after having a six-year streak snapped last season. The Hilltoppers are No. 1 in national statistics in 3-point shots made per game - 9.2. West Liberty is shooting almost 38 percent (275-727) from behind the arc. Renee Farina is West Liberty's top 3-point shooter. She has made 105 of 253 attempts from behind the arc (.415). Anderson is 3-2 in its previous two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Anderson and West Liberty State met in the first round of the 2004 tournament at California, Pa. That was Anderson's first-ever NCAA Tournament game. The Lady Trojans rallied in the final seven minutes to pull out an 88-78 victory. Chiles finished that game with 32 points, including nine straight during a key stretch late in the second half.
