Lady Trojans To Face Clemson, Vandy, And Wake

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson College women's basketball team will open the 2005-06 season with three exhibition games against Division I opponents. The Lady Trojans, 33-3 overall last season, will play at Clemson on Nov. 1, at Vanderbilt on Nov. 5, and at Wake Forest on Nov. 9. "I'm excited about the opportunity for our women's basketball program to play against three major Division I programs who are members of powerful conferences like the ACC and the SEC," Dow said. "This will certainly be a tremendous challenge for our players to compete against teams of this caliber. I am a strong believer in making an effort to play quality competition in an attempt to assess our own strengths and weaknesses and give us a gauge as to where we are as a team. "In future years, we will continue to schedule aggressively and pursue opportunities to play Division I opponents both in exhibitions and in the regular season." There is a connection between Anderson and Clemson. During AC's junior college days, Annie Tribble led the Lady Trojans, then known as "Tribble's Trotters", to three national championships before becoming the head coach at Clemson and leading the Lady Tigers to 200 victories in 11 seasons. Before leaving for Clemson, Tribble directed AC to three victories over the Lady Tigers during the 1975-76 season. At Wake Forest, Dow will face his former boss Mike Peterson, who is now the head coach at Wake. Dow worked for Peterson at New Mexico State from 1992-96. Anderson, the defending Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference regular-season and tournament champions, will open its regular season at Friday, Nov. 18 in the Concord University Classic at Concord, W.Va. The Lady Trojans also have one regular-season game schedule against a Division I opponent. Anderson will travel to Charleston on Jan. 18 to face the College of Charleston.
