Chiles Leads Anderson Past Queens

ANDERSON, S.C. - LaShonda Chiles scored 29 points, handed out six assists and had five steals to lead Anderson University to an 83-76 victory over Queens University of Charlotte in a CVAC women's game Thursday night. Chiles, a junior from Greenwood, made three 3-point goals and was 8-for-8 from the free throw line. The victory improves Anderson to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the CVAC. Queens falls to 2-9, 1-3. Latrice Thomas added 15 points and Mikala Fogle-Wilson chipped in 13 points for Anderson, which has now won six straight. Queens was led by Maggie Austin with 17 points and Phylicia Turner and Carmelita Jimenez with 13 points apiece. Queens led most of the first half. The largest lead for the Royals was 20-14 at the 10:04 mark. A layup by Keana Boyd with 29 seconds remaining in the half gave Anderson a 37-36 lead. The Lady Trojans never trailed again. Anderson opened the second half with a 16-6 run for a 53-42 lead with 12:40 to play. Chiles made two of her 3-point goals during the run. Queens got no closer than seven points in the final 12 minutes. Anderson scored 24 points off 20 Queens turnovers. The Lady Trojans shot 41 percent from the field to 38 percent for Queens. Anderson was 27-for-37 from the line. In their last two games, the Lady Trojans have made 59 of 75 free throw attempts. Led by Ciera Brown's game-high eight rebounds, Queens won the boards, 46-36. Boyd and Gina Holbrook had seven rebounds apiece for Anderson.
