Clemson Beats Lady Trojans, 75-60

CLEMSON, S.C. -- D'Lesha Lloyd scored 14 points and Tasha Taylor added 11 points to lead Clemson to a 75-60 victory over Anderson College in an exhibition game Tuesday night at Littlejohn Coliseum. "I thought we competed throughout the game, but when we stopped making shots it got tough," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "The first half was a great effort. I think we learned a lot about ourselves tonight, and we will get a lot of positives from watching the tape." Anderson jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and led by as many as 10 points in the first half. Anderson's LaShonda Chiles led all scorers with 24 points. Mikala Fogle-Wilson added 16 for the Lady Trojans. Chiles, a junior from Greenwood, was 9-for-22 from the field, 3-for-8 from behind the arc, and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Trailing 33-27 at the half, Clemson came out and dominated the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Lady Tigers went on a 34-10 run to take a 61-43 lead with 8:23 remaining. "In the second half, our depth became an issue," Dow said. "Some of our shots started coming up short because we didn't have our legs." Clemson shot 51 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game at 42 percent. Anderson made just 9 of 35 field goals in the second half (25.7) to finish at just 29.7 percent. Clemson won the boards, 56-46. Anderson's Gina Holbrook, a freshman from Toccoa, Ga., was the game's leading rebounder with 10. Lloyd and Maxienne White led Clemson on the boards with eight apiece. Clemson outscored Anderson in the paint, 40-22. "Teams will geat to stop Shonda," Dow said. "I like a star point guard, but I want a balanced team. We've got people capable of scoring in double figures. We don't want to be one-dimensional." Anderson plays its second exhibition Saturday at Vanderbilt. "I think we will develop some confidence from these two exhibitions because we're playing against bigger and stronger athletes," Dow said. "We will be able to remember the good stretches."
