Holbrook Leads Anderson To Rout Of Belmont Abbey

ANDERSON, S.C. - Gina Holbrook had a career-high 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to lead Anderson University to an 80-59 victory over Belmont Abbey in a CVAC women's game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the CVAC, never trailed. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 28-13 lead in the first 11 minutes and then steadily built their lead until it reached 29 - 67-38 - midway through the second half. The loss drops Belmont Abbey to 5-3, 2-1. Holbrook, a freshman from Toccoa, Ga., was 6-for-6 from the field and four of her 12 rebounds were off the offensive glass. Following Holbrook for Anderson were LaShonda Chiles with 14 points, Mikala Fogle-Wilson with 12 points, and Deidra Langston with 10 points. Chiles, a junior from Greenwood, S.C., has scored in double figures in 52 straight games. Belmont Abbey's leading scorer was Nicole Woods with a game-high 19 points. Anderson scored 31 points off 23 Belmont Abbey turnovers. The Lady Trojans committed just 11 turnovers. The Lady Trojans had 21 assists on 30 baskets. Chiles handed out seven of Anderson's assists. Anderson shot 48 percent in the second half to finish the game at 43 percent. Belmont Abbey finished the game at 37 percent from the field. Anderson's bench outscored the Belmont Abbey bench, 23-3.
