CARSON CAPTURES ALL-REGION HONORS TO FINISH CAREER

ANDERSON, SC--After breaking the all-time Anderson University homerun record in late March, Blair Carson had already capped off a special career as a Trojan, but on Wednesday, almost a month removed from AU's heroic exit from the Conference Carolinas tournament, Carson was named to the Southeast All-Region second team as an infielder. In his four years as a Trojan, Carson did it all, piling on the all-time record books like none before him. He holds the records for games played (225), at bats (883), hits (285), home runs (34), doubles (61), total bases (482), and extra base hits (112). "Blair being selected as 2009 second team all region as an infielder and 2008 first team all region as an outfielder shows what kind of talent and versatility he has," said head baseball coach Joe Miller. "He is the best offensive player to ever play at Anderson." And the records do not lie. What is tremendous though, is that Carson was also a force on the bump, leading the Trojans this year with 52 K's to only 16 walks. He also led the team in innings pitched and wins. So it was fitting that the senior opened the conference tournament this year with a complete game against the 2008 National Champion, Mount Olive, a game in which Carson conceded no earned runs. Then, in the second game against host Barton, Carson belted a 2-run walk-off shot, leading his team to the semis. Carson's career at AU has been undoubtedly special, and there is no question that it will take a collective effort to fill his shoes.
