UNCP knocks off undefeated Anderson

PEMBROKE, N.C. - UNCP knocked off previously undefeated Anderson, 7-2, in the front half of a weekend-opening doubleheader on Saturday at Sammy Cox Field. Blair Carson homered on a 2-for-4 day at the plate to lead the Trojans (2-1). Starter Chris Pitts (0-1) saddled the loss for Anderson, allowing six runs on 11 hits in seven innings. B.J. Smith belted a solo homer in the first to help Anderson draw first blood, but Whitman's solo job keyed a three-run second inning for UNCP. Carson helped chop into the deficit with a leadoff homer in the fourth and UNCP dodged any additional damage when, after the Trojans loaded the bases with their next three at-bats, struck out Thomas Padro. Coker's leadoff homer in the bottom of the seventh and Tom Porricelli's RBI single in the eighth would provide the final. Box Score
