ANDERSON, SC--The Anderson University baseball team hit the ball early and often on Sunday at Memorial Stadium, posting 10 hits on the day, but it was starting pitcher Bryson Graydon that did the Trojans' bidding, as the junior pitched a complete game shutout on 6 hits, 5 K's and no walks in route to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Catawba Indians. "[Coach Rutland] told me that he had a left hander warming up for a lefty batter and a righty for a right handed batter," said Graydon on his last little meeting on the mound Sunday. "But then he said, 'but I am not taking you out, just get this next batter out,' and that's what I did; all the guys playing behind were great--great defense all day." AU was led at the plate by a trio of big hitters. Senior Blair Carson was 1-4 with an RBI, junior lead-off batter BJ Smith was 3-4 with a run, and junior centerfielder Derek Hipp went 2-3 with the other RBI. The Trojans' bats were fierce from start to finish, but they did not get around the bases quite like they would have liked; fortunately on Graydon's back they did not need a lot of runs. "Offensively, I thought we played well today; I thought we could've scored 3 or 4 more runs, but things didn't necessarily go our way there," said head coach Joe Miller. "But when a kid has an opportunity to throw a complete game in college baseball, you are gonna give him that opportunity." The Trojans have a full week ahead as they prepare for the Conference Carolinas tournament. AU will travel to North Georgia on Tuesday, April 7 for their last road game of the year, and then it is back to Memorial Stadium for the their last 6-the home stand is highlighted by a crucial 3-game series vs. Coker on April 10 & 11.
