TROJANS LOSE DESPITE BACK TO BACK HEROICS

ANDERSON, SC--The eighth inning was a very viable enterprise again today for a resillient AU Trojan Baseball team, but a two-run, lead-snatching bottom half was not quite enough, as AU allowed 3 runs in the top of the ninth dropping a non-conference bout at home to the Limestone Saints 4-2. Luis Martinez pitched a gem; he was dialed in with his slider, and kept Saints hitters off balance all day long with his change-up. Martinez pitched 8 solid innings, only giving up one earned run while ringing up 6 K's. Until the eighth inning, the Trojans had stranded nine batters, and Martinez was on the losing end of the day. Then Trent Still picked up his ace, going yard to centerfield, tying the game at one. Right behind him was second baseman Ryan Saxon, who laced a fastball deep over the rightfield wall. The Trojans brought on senior closer, Cory Welch in the top of the ninth, and it turned out to be Limestone's day. "It was a good move; i mean, our bullpen, it's been good all season," said Luis Martinez. "sometimes you just have bad days--we will bounce back in the next game." Welch walked three and gave up the game winner and one insurance run on an odd play where a throw home got away from catcher Trent Still and the toss back to the catcher got away. The Trojans travel to Misenheimer, NC this weekend to take on Pfeiffer University in a Conference Carolinas matchup.
