Trojans sweep doubleheader

Anderson, S.C. - The Trojans swept the opening doubleheader of conference play on Saturday afternoon against St. Andrews by scores of 8-2 and 14-3. In the first game, the Trojans and Knights took a 2-2 tie into the seventh inning. St. Andrews would load the bases with one out in the top of the inning, but reliever Brady Peele would get Kyle Norris to ground into an inning ending double play. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Blair Carson singled to lead off. Trent Still doubled in the next at bat to bring runners to second and third. Josh Grubbs would provide a 2RBI triple to give the Trojans the lead. Brady Peele recorded the win in relief, after starter Chris Pitts pitched 6 1/3 strong innings. Freshman Brett Scarberry was 2-3 at the plate. Josh Grubbs was 2-5 with 3 RBI, while Marr Hill was 2-5 with 2 RBI. In the second game, the Trojans would continue scoring in bunches. The Trojans erupted for eight runs on five hits in the fourth, putting this game out of reach. Starter Bryson Graydon turned in a solid performance for the win, while Jordan Oates and Andrew Johnson provided strong innings out of the bullpen. Freshman Blake May was 3-4 with 3 RBI, while designated hitter Ryan Saxon was 2-4 with 3RBI. The Trojans improve to 6-3 (2-0) on the season. The third game of this conference series will be Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm.
