Erskine upsets #23 Anderson

Due West, S.C. - Cody McElhaney blasted his third home run of the day over the left field fence in the bottom of the ninth to give the Fleet a 14-12 victory over the #23rd ranked Trojans of Anderson University Wednesday afternoon in non conference baseball action. McElhaney put Erskine on the board first with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to put the Fleet up 1-0. Erskine would add three more in the third, after Greg Huff led the inning off with a solo home run, Keith Hill would score on a ground out by Bryan Fogle and Chas Anthony scored on a two out error by the Trojans. Anderson would answer with five runs in the fourth with the big blast coming from Ryan Saxton who hit a grand slam. The lead would not last long for the Trojans as McElhaney led off the fourth with a single then scored on a double by Huff. Huff would then score on a single and come around and score on a ground out by Anthony to give the Fleet a 7-5 lead. Matt Hill would lead the fifth off with his second double of the game and come around to score on a ground out by Trent Still to cut the Erskine lead to one. The Trojans tied the game up the very next inning on a solo home run from Saxton. Once again, the Fleet answered the Trojans with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs and a runner on, Fogle connected with his 12th home run of the season to put the Fleet up 9-7. After a single from Anthony, Matt Schneider would come to the plate and hit a home run to right field to push the lead to 11-7. McElhaney would connect with his second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh to give the Fleet some breathing room with a 12-7 lead. The Trojans would not go away, scoring three runs in the eighth on a two run home run from Andrew Davis and a RBI single from Derek Hipp to make it a 12-10 game. Anderson held the Fleet scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, and then would tie the game up in the ninth. Carson led the inning off with a bunt single and then Still blasted a home run over the center field fence to make it a 12-12 game. In the bottom half of the inning, Mo Seay led off with a walk, bringing McElhaney to the plate. After fouling the first pitch off, he blasted his third home run of the day over the left field fence to give the Fleet the win. McElhaney led the Fleet at the plate going 4-5 with three home runs and four runs batted in, while Huff was 3-5 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Fogle finished the game 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs and Anthony was 3-5 with a double and run driven in. William Buzhardt picked up the win pitching a scoreless inning of relief. Saxton led the Trojans going 2-5 with two home runs and five RBIs, while Carson was 3-5 with a double and RBI. Cory Welsh took the loss allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning of work. With the win, Erskine improves to 13-4, while Anderson falls to 10-5 with the loss. Anderson hosts Brevard on Thursday at 3pm. Game Stats
