TROJANS SUFFER FOURTH STRAIGHT LOSS

ANDERSON, SC--The Trojan baseball team returned home today to play future South Atlantic Conference rival Lincoln-Memorial, but the visiting Railsplitters ran away with the afternoon fixture, lacing line drives all day long, and beating a travel burdened AU team 14-5; the loss drops the Trojans to 16-13 on the year. Kyle Williamson started on the mound for AU, but he was touched up very early. Jordan Oates came in to relieve Williamson; Oates gave way fairly quickly to sophomore Elliot Tolley. Tolley went 2 innings, giving up 4 earned on just one K. Railsplitters' centerfielder Cody Pack gave three different Trojan pitchers fits, as he went 3-6 at the plate with 2 runs and 3 RBI. Among his hits was a massive blast over the deepest part of centerfield. The homerun encapsulated the entire Trojan afternoon. Matt Hill, Trent Still, and Blair Carson did their very best to get a late rally started as AU put together a 4-run 8th. But it was all for naught. The Trojans will travel to Carson-Newman for a 2:00 non-conference fixture tomorrow. But this weekend AU returns home and welcomes in the Belmont Abbey Crusaders for a 3-game series, and a chance to get back over the hump in Conference Carolinas competition. It is the Trojan baseball team's alumni weekend; the doubleheader on Saturday is set for a noon first pitch.
