TROJANS TRUMP O8 NAT'L CHAMPS IN 1ST ROUND

WILSON, SC--After coming into Wilson, NC on Wednesday night and grabbing the home run derby title, the Anderson University baseball team faced off against 2008 national champion Mount Olive in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament on Thursday morning; with the Trojans having won 5 of their last 6 games to end the regular season, Blair Carson took the mound and did all he could to shoulder the burden of victory, as the senior starter threw a complete game and went 3-4 with an RBI at the plate, helping to lead AU over the other Trojans 4-2. The AU Trojans stayed hot at just the right time. Carson helped to start the scoring in the first as he drove in lead off batter BJ Smith with a double to right. Then, in the second, centerfielder Derek Hipp smashed a timely triple that drove in 3 runs to give AU a 4-0 lead. That lead would be all that Blair Carson would need; the senior double threat was composed all morning for the Trojans. After giving up two unearned runs on two errors in the third, the AU hurler went the distance and completed the 9-inning first round victory. Carson struck out 4 on just 2 walks and 6 hits. AU will wait for the result of a Thursday afternoon first-round battle between Limestone and Barton. The Trojans will play the winner of that game tomorrow.
