ANDERSON, SC--After dropping four games in a row and out of the top 30, with a loss at home to Limestone and a sweep on the road at #27 Pfeiffer, the Anderson University Trojan baseball team seems to have had enough; back in Anderson Memorial Stadium for the second time in two days, AU put another great game together today as they took out the #25 Tusculum College Pioneers 7-3. After taking out the big-hitting Erskine Flying Fleet last night, who sits like the Trojans, just out of the top 30, the Trojans came right back today and did it again with the same score. But this time they climbed on the back of senior pitcher Luis Martinez and a pile of hits. AU plated four runs in the second inning and rang up 12 hits on the day as they batted .353 as a team and never allowed a Pioneer pitcher to get beyond 2 2/3 innings. Martinez started out of the gate a little shaky, as he gave up a single, an RBI triple, and a sac-fly RBI to start the game. Then the righty cleaned everything up, striking out the next two Tusculum batters and never looking back. Martinez pitched 7 innings on 2 earned runs and 4 K's. Then, after junior Brady Peele came on in relief and gave up a run on a walk and a hit, closer Cory Welch came on and slammed the door shut. Welch went 1 1/3 innings, giving up only one walk compared to 4 K's. Senior right fielder, Alex Roberson, went 3-4 with a run and 2 RBI, while it was freshman Blake May that made fireworks, posting 2 runs and 2 RBI on a double and a deep solo shot to left field. With the win, the Trojans improve to 15-9 overall (5-4), and on the heels of the last two wins over strong Southeastern regional opponents, it would not be surprising to see AU right back in the top 30 in the nation. The important thing is to just keep winning. The Trojans will do battle with North Greenville tomorrow night at 6:00pm at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
