HILTON HEAD LAKES, S.C. - Led by freshman Tiffany Elam, the Anderson women's golf team placed eighth at the Pfeiffer Invitational, hosted by the Falcons at the 5,927-yard, par 72 Hilton Head Lakes Golf Course.
Mount Olive (598) led the two-day event wire-to-wire to claim the team title by two shots over Armstrong State (600), while King (608) slipped from a tie for second into third place on Tuesday. Queens (629) and Wingate (632) traded spots, with the Royals moving into fourth and the Bulldogs sliding into the fifth slot. The host Falcons (635) finished five shots ahead of seventh-place Newberry (640), with Anderson (644) four strokes further back.
Converse (649), Erskine (651), Young Harris (660), Lenoir-Rhyne (662), Mars Hill (680), North Greenville (707), Southern Wesleyan (734) and Brevard (735) rounded out the 16-team field.
Mount Olive's Paula Guridi (142) also led wire-to-wire en route to capturing individual medalist honors by three strokes over Erskine's Krysta Schaus.
Elam carded a two-day 11-over-par 155 to finish tied for 19th, with classmate Makalyn Poole firing a 15-over-par 159 and sharing 30th place. Sophomore Riley Lovorn slashed 10 strokes from her opening round and moved from 54th to a share of 36th place following a two-round 162.
Senior Arista Setro (171) trimmed three shots from Monday's first round and claimed a share of the 54th spot, with freshman Blake Hodges carding a 173 and finishing in a tie for 56th.
The Trojans are scheduled to get back in action at the Agnes McAmis Memorial, which will be hosted by Tusculum on April 4-5 at the Link Hills Country Club.
