Women’s Golf Set to Compete at Converse Spring Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - On the heels of a two-week layoff, the Anderson University women's golf team is set to compete at the Converse Spring Invitational, which is slated to be held Monday and Tuesday at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.

This week marks the third appearance in three seasons for the Trojans in Spartanburg, with AU tying for 14th in a weather-shortened one day event a year ago after claiming fourth in 2014. Garyt Hamilton paced the Trojans with a 12-over-par 84 last year, with the Seneca, S.C., native finishing in a tie for 29th. Braiden Furtick posted an opening-round 92 and shared 58th. Arista Setro rounded out the Trojan contingent with a 99 and finished in a tie for 71st.

Anderson will be looking to improve on its 12th-place finish two weeks ago at the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, which saw the Trojans post a team total 670 at the two-day event. Freshman Tiffany Elam carded two-day 19-over-par 163 to pace the Black and Gold with a 26th-place finish. Sophomore Riley Lovorn and freshman Makalyn Poole shared an eight-way tie for 29th after carding identical 164s.

Furtick finished in a four-way tie for 69th, while freshman Blake Hodges shared 73rd after firing a two-day 180.
