Women’s Golf Readies for Illinois Springfield’s Island Getaway

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's golf team will close out its fall slate by competing at the Illinois Springfield Island Getaway, scheduled to be hosted by the Prairie Stars at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico on Monday and Tuesday.

The resort features a pair of golf courses, the Ocean Course designed by Tom and George Fazio, and the River Course, which was designed by Greg Norman.

The Trojans are coming off a seventh-place finish at Catawba's Patsy Rendleman Invitational two weeks ago at the Country Club of Salisbury in North Carolina. Freshman Makalyn Poole finished in a tie for 20th, while sophomore Riley Lovorn shared the 26th spot. Senior Braiden Furtick finished in a three-way tie for 30th, with freshman Tiffany Elam sharing the 38th slot. Freshman Blake Hodges finished in a tie for 53rd.

Poole won individual medalist honors at the AU Invitational in mid-September and leads the Trojans with a 78.00 stroke average through the two fall events, while posting a low-round of 75. Furtick has a top-10 finish to her credit and has averaged 80.75 strokes through four rounds, while carding an opening-round 80 at the AU Invitational.

With their success through the two fall tournaments, the Black and Gold jumped 34 spots and are ranked 82nd nationally in the latest Golfstat rankings. The latest poll places AU in the middle of the South Atlantic Conference, behind Carson-Newman (42nd), Wingate (51st), Newberry (54th), Lincoln Memorial (60th) and Lenoir-Rhyne (72nd), while leading the remaining teams in the league.
