Trojan Men’s and Women’s Golf Set to Host AU Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's golf teams are set to host the AU Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Cobb's Glen Country Club in Anderson, S.C.

The men's tournament will feature the host Trojans along with Bob Jones University, Belmont Abbey, Emmanuel, Erskine, Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill and Southern Wesleyan, with Spartanburg Methodist rounding out the 11-team field. The course will consist of a par-72, 7,005-yard layout, with the men teeing off at the first green, Monday at 8:30 a.m.

Tuesday's final round will have a shotgun start.

The Trojan men will look to improve on last year's seventh-place finish after placing ninth two seasons ago and capturing fourth in both 2011 and 2012.
Erskine posted a two-day total 589 to win last year's tourney by 11 shots over Queens, while fellow South Atlantic Conference-member Catawba finished third. Spartanburg Methodist claimed fourth last year, with Milligan, which is not competing this year placing fifth. The Erskine (B) squad was sixth, while Anderson finished seventh.

Milligan and Erskine tied for second two years ago, as the two squads finished six shots behind UNC Pembroke. The Flying Fleet also captured second in 2012, finishing 17 shots behind Flagler.

Queens' Mike Downy surged from a three-way tie for 10th a year ago to claim individual honors, while Erskine's Ford Blanchard and Queens' Jake McLaren shared the second spot, three shots further back.

The women's nine-team event will consist of the host Trojans alongside teams from Brevard, Catawba, Emmanuel, Erskine, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, North Greenville and Spartanburg Methodist. The ladies' layout will be slightly shorter than a year ago, with a par-72, 5,825-yard course, with the women teeing off at the 10th green, Monday at 8:30 a.m.

The Anderson's women's squad will be looking to better last year's fifth-place finish at Cobb's Glen, after placing fifth last in 2013 and fourth in 2012.

Erskine has claimed the team title each of the last two years, while Flagler earned the team title in 2012. Lincoln Memorial and Queens finished second and third, respectively, a year ago, with the Trojans trailing Milligan. Mars Hill placed sixth, with Spartanburg Methodist finishing seventh.

Erskine's Rachel Moore captured the individual medalist title last year after firing a two-round 3-over-par. Queens' Kylie Nizolek claimed the second spot after snapping an opening-round tie with Milligan's Mollie Stone, with Braiden Furtick and then-senior Sarah Timms each posting a second-round 8-over-par 80 to lead the Trojans a year ago.
