RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Led by freshman Makalyn Poole's 6-over-par 71 during Tuesday's final round, the Anderson women's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule by finishing ninth at the Illinois-Springfield Island Getaway at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar par-71, 6,055-yard Ocean Course layout.
Indianapolis (304-299=603) led the 12-team event wire-to-wire, capturing the team title by a decisive 17 shots over St. Edward's (309-311=620), which moved up one spot from a tie with West Texas A&M (309-318=627). Arkansas Tech (307-322=629) fell from second to fourth, while the host Prairie Stars (314-319=633) claimed fifth place.
Texas Wesleyan (318-319=637) finished sixth, two strokes in front of Southern Indiana (318-321=639), with Drury (317-327=644) dropping two spots into eighth after the final round. Anderson (326-330=656) remained in the ninth spot, with Central Missouri (337-328=665), Jackson State (366-365=731) and St. Joseph's College (392-388=780) rounding out the field.
Kylie Woods (76-73=149) of Indianapolis overtook West Texas A & M's Whitlee Woods (73-77=150) to claim individual medalist honors by one shot, with Indianapolis' Annika Haynes (77-73=150) leaping from a tie for 10th into a share of the runner-up spot with a 2-over-par effort on Tuesday.
Poole fired a two-day 16-over-par 158 to vault from a share of 33rd to a tie for 15th on Tuesday, with senior Braiden Furtick (80-83=163) claiming 35th. Freshman Tiffany Elam shared the 39th slot, with sophomore Riley Lovorn finishing in a tie for 43rd. Freshman Blake Hodges wrapped up the two-day event with a 173 to finish in a tie for 51st.
