HILTON HEAD LAKES, S.C. - Fresh off a come-from-behind win in Spartanburg, S.C., two week ago, the Anderson women's golf team is in eighth place following Monday's first-round of the Pfeiffer Invitational, hosted by the Falcons at the 5,927-yard, par 72 Hilton Head Lakes Golf Course.
Mount Olive (297) leads the two-day tournament by three strokes over both Armstrong State and King, who are tied for second after shooting 300s. Wingate (315) is one shot ahead of fifth-place Queens (316) and three shots up on sixth-place Newberry (318).
The host Falcons are in seventh after an opening-round 319, while Anderson (322), Erskine (330), Young Harris (331), Converse (332), Lenoir-Rhyne (338), Mars Hill (345), North Greenville (361), Southern Wesleyan (364) and Brevard (372) round out the 16-team field.
Mount Olive's Paula Guridi posted a first-round 68 and leads the chase for individual medalist honors by four shots over Erskine's Krysta Schaus.
Freshman Tiffany Elam fired a 2-over-par 74 to pace the Trojans and sits in a four-way tie for fourth place, while fellow freshman Makalyn Poole carded a 6-over-par 78 and is tied for 18th entering Tuesday's final round. Freshman Blake Hodges carded an 84 and shares 47th place, with sophomore Riley Lovorn in 54th place following a first-round 86. Senior Arista Setro rounded out the Trojan contingent in 58th after an 87 on Monday.
The second and final round of the Pfeiffer Invitational is slated for Tuesday.
