Dotson Completes 5,000m at NCAA Nationals

PUEBLO, CO. – Elliot Dotson of the Anderson University men's track and field team competed in the 5,000m at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships on Saturday (May 27) with a time of 15:45.01 to finish 17th place.

Awet Beraki of Adams State was the 5,000m national champion as he won the event with a mark of 14:13.69. Scott Nuttner of Wingate was the other representative of the South Atlantic Conference in the event, finishing in 15th place (14:55.72).

"It was a long year overall for Elliot that ended at the national meet," said coach Kevin Eagle. "It was not the result anyone wanted, but we have to look at the positives and realize that he ended the year as the fastest freshman in all of Division II with a long career ahead."

Dotson, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., qualified for NCAA Nationals by completing the 5,000m at the Virginia Challenge (Apr. 21) with a time of 13:57.18 to break the Anderson school record. This season, Dotson has also set the outdoor 1,500m record (3:49.74) at High Point, the indoor mile record (4:08.55) at the Carolina Challenge and the indoor 3,000m record (8:17.93) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
