Men's Track and Field Has Successful Trojan Opener

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's track and field team completed the Trojan Opener on Saturday (Mar. 18).

The home meet marked the first of the outdoor season for the Trojans. On Friday (Mar. 17) Tyler Farris won the pole vault with a mark of 4.30m. Grayson Smith recorded marks of 29.47m in hammer throw, 27.04m in the discus, and 10.42m in the shot put. Simeon Respress finished sixth in the long jump (6.79m), ad sixth in the high jump (1.90m).

Daniel Similton led the Trojans in the 1500m by finishing second. Ben Molitor paced the Trojans in the 400m to finish fourth at 49.82. Logan Berzins finished inside the top-10 at ninth (51.27), with Ian Macurda (51.92) and Hunter Norman (51.93) staying step-for-step at 15th and 16th place.

Adam Trusty finished third in the 800m with a time of 1:57.67. Dallas Cantrell ran the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.75, and Tiago Perez ran the 100m in 13.65 seconds. In the 5000m, Ty Nelson paced the Trojans with a time of 15:45.07 to finish 11th, with Michael Burgess close behind at 15:51.92 for 13th place. Bryson Mace (16:12.55) and David Williams (16:35.96) rounded things out for the Trojans.

The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Berzins, Macurda, Farris, and Molitor finished sixth with a time of 3:28.58. The team of Norman, Trusty, Cantrell, and Pryor took 12th at 3:36.97. 

"We had a very successful outdoor opener this weekend," said coach Kevin Eagle. "The competition was great in all event groups and our athletes really stepped up to perform well. We had several personal bests and it sets us up well as the season progresses over the next two months. We must now focus on training and doing the little things it takes to reach the next level."

The Trojans will be back in action this weekend (Mar.23-25) as they travel to Raliegh, N.C. for the Raliegh Relays. Results can be found at autrojans.com.
