Track and Field Set for First Indoor Meet of 2023

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams are getting set for their first indoor meet of 2023 as they will travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Opener on Saturday (Jan. 14).

Before Christmas break, the Trojans went up to Winston-Salem on Dec. 3 for the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-Off. Freshman Georgia Piper headlined the event for Anderson by setting an indoor school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.64m. On the men's side, freshmen Tyler Farris took third in the pole vault at 4.10m. Assistant coach Andrew Mudd was pleased with the team's performance and work ethic, noting multiple indoor personal bests as the result. "Our athletes have worked very hard, and it has shown in their performances," said Mudd. "As a team we are far ahead of where we were at last year. It will be exciting to see where we can go from here."

Coach Kevin Eagle will have a deeper squad available at the Gamecock Opener than the Winston-Salem meet in December, as the NCAA Cross Country National Championships were taking place in Seattle during the first indoor track meet, taking a good majority of the team's distance runners.

The action starts Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. with the women's pole vault. A full schedule can be found by clicking this link.
