Dotson Takes Second in 1,500m; Named SAC Freshman of the Year

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's track and field team completed day two of the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday (May 4) at the AU Track Complex. Elliot Dotson headlined the afternoon for the Trojans by finishing second in the 1,500m (3:52.56) and being named the 2023 SAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Two school records were set on the week: Dallas Cantrell in the 110m hurdles (prelims) 16.02 and the 4x400m relay (Logan Berzins, Ian Macurda, Hunter Norman, and Ben Molitor) combining for a time of 3:22.11. Lambdin Hardy won the pole vault, while Will O'Cain, Lucas Pryor, and Tyler Farris all finished in the top-five.

Elliot Dotson headlined day two by taking second in the 1,500m for a podium finish (3:52.56), while also pacing the Trojans in the 5,000m with a time of 14:40.01 to finish fourth. Jonathan Roberts (15:55.39), Bryson Mace (16:02.29), David Williams (16:13.52), and Dylan Lego (16:26.95) also running the 5k for Anderson. Tyler Farris totaled 5072 points in the decathlon, coming in sixth place. In the field, Simeon Respress had a distance of 1.86m in the high jump and Grayson Smith finished at 11.04m in the shot put. 

The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Logan Berzins, Ian Macurda, Hunter Norman, and Ben Molitor combining for a time of 3:22.11 to set a new Anderson school record. The 4x100m team of Simeon Respress, Zach Cannon, Ben Molitor, and Logan Berzins took seventh place in 42.93 seconds.

"We had a lot of great individual performances over the past two days," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We had two school records broken, five podium finishes, and a ton of lifetime bests. Our teams left everything out on the track and it showed in the results. We know that there is a lot of room for growth amongst the team and we are all ready to put in the work to see even better results."
