Dotson and Whitaker Named Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Elliot Dotson and Emma Whitaker of the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams have been named the Jimmy John's Male and Female Athletes of the Week, for the week ending Jan. 22.

Dotson, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., set a new Anderson indoor mile school record with a time of 4:08.55, earning the top time in the SAC this season, a NCAA provisional mark, and SAC Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors. Last week, Elliot placed second in 3,000m run at the Gamecock Opener (8:29) which put him second on the all-time Anderson list in the event, and second on the SAC list this season.

Whitaker, a freshman from Inman, S.C., ran a 2:24 in the 800m at the Carolina Challenge. In her first-time racing in this event, the performance currently ranks her second in the SAC. Emma was also a member of the 4x400m relay that took fourth place in the event, ranking as the second-best time in the SAC so far this year.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
