Dotson and Cantrell Set Records at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Anderson University men's track and field team completed their second meet of the 2023 season at a very competitive Carolina Challenge, facing off against 17 Division I schools on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20 - 21).

Elliot Dotson led the way for the Trojans in the mile run, winning the event with a time of 4:08.55 to set a new Anderson school record, which was also an NCAA qualifying time. Spain Vaughan set an indoor personal record with a time of 4:11.96 to finish fourth. Daniel Similton finished just outside the top-10 with a mark of 4:25.61. Tyler Farris (52.32), Ian Macurda (53.13), and Hunter Norman (56.72) ran the 400m.

Dallas Cantrell set the indoor 60m hurdles school record with a time of 9.10 in the qualifying stage. Tiago Perez had a time of 7.33 in the 60m qualifier in his first meet with the Trojans. Ben Molitor paced the Trojans in the 200m at a pace of 22.94 for 28th place. Logan Berzins (23.61), Zach Cannon (24.00), and Cantrell (25.15) also competed in the 200m.

Jonathan Roberts paced the Trojans in the 5,000m with a personal record of 15:09.64 to take fifth. Ty Nelson (15:22.05) and David Williams (15:34.05) took eighth and ninth. Freshman Adam Trusty ran the 800m in a time of 1:58.94 to finish 20th. The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Ben Molitor, Tyler Farris, Ian Macurda, and Zach Cannon placed eighth with a time of 3:32.23.

Four Anderson freshmen impressed in the pole vault, with Tyler Farris leading the way with a distance of 4.40m for second place. Will O'Cain took sixth (4.10m), Lambdin Hardy (3.90m) finished seventh, and Lucas Pryor rounded things out at 3.70m to finish 12th. Grayson Smith recorded distances of 10.23m in the shot put, and 9.58m in the weight throw.

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 3) as they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Camel City Invitational. More information can be found on autrojans.com as the meet approaches.
