Dotson Named SAC Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Elliot Dotson of the Anderson University men's track and field team has been named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday (Jan. 23).

Dotson, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., set a new Anderson indoor mile school record with a time of 4:08.55, earning the top time in the SAC this season and an NCAA provisional mark.

Last week, Elliot placed second in 3,000m run at the Gamecock Opener (8:29) which put him second on the all-time Anderson list in the event, and second on the SAC list this season.

"Elliot has improved tremendously since he has arrived at Anderson as a true freshman this past fall," said coach Kevin Eagle. "This performance shows that he has quickly become a national caliber runner in a short amount of time. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what he is capable of later in his career."

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 3) as they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Camel City Invitational. More information can be found at autrojans.com as the meet approaches.
