Track and Field Set for Challenging Competition at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams are getting set for their second meet of the 2023 indoor season at the Carolina Challenge on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20 – 21). The two-day event will be a worthy challenge for the Trojans, as the field includes 17 division one schools.

The teams competing this week: Allen University, Anderson University, Barton College, Benedict College, The Citadel, Claflin University, Coastal Carolina, Coker University, Coppin State, Davidson, Emory, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Howard, Limestone, Montreat College, North Carolina A&T, North Greenville, Queens, South Carolina State, SCAD-Savannah, South Carolina, Southern Wesleyan, Tennessee, Troy, UNC Pembroke, Wake Forest, Western Carolina, Winthrop.

Anderson returns to Columbia, S.C. a week after competing in the Gamecock Opener. Elliot Dotson headlined the results on the men's side, finishing in second place in the 3,000m in his first indoor collegiate race with a time of 8:29. That mark puts him second on the AU all-time list for the event. For the women, Elise Matthews (10:22) and Emily Golden (10:33) paced the Trojans in the event by finishing fifth and eighth respectively. Matthews and Golden's times were the two best marks by Division II athletes in the event, competing against Coastal Carolina, South Carolina, College of Charleston, and USC Upstate.

"We are looking to improve on what we did a week ago at USC," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We have a few runners making season debuts and others running in different events as a week ago. Most of the team is looking fit and ready to pop off big performances. It will be a jam-packed weekend for our teams as we look to build off last week. This meet has a lot better competition than a week ago, so it will be a great gauge on how fit we are."

The action begins Friday (Jan. 20) at 10:00 A.M. for the field and 10:30 for track. For the full schedule and live results visit autrojans.com.
