Trojans Defeated by Queens 17-9

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's lacrosse team fought hard, but came up short 17-9 in a South Atlantic Conference match to the Queens University Royals on Saturday (Apr. 16) at Spero Financial Field.

The Trojans entered the match with an 8-6 record, coming off a hard-fought 14-13 loss to Newberry earlier in the week. Anderson jumped out to an early 3-1 lead against Queens courtesy of goals from Ryley Zopfi, Nick Calabrese, and Logan Gaddis. However, the Royals responded by scoring eight of the next 10 goals to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.

The Royals continued to control the pace of play in the second half, scoring the first four goals of the third period. Nick Calabrese and Triston Schaffer each scored a pair of goals in the second half, but it was not enough as Queens cruised to a 17-9 victory.

Goalie Joey Heckel totaled 11 saves on the day. Logan Gaddis led the team with three caused turnovers while Peyton Jefferson and Ryley Zopfi each finished with two apiece. Jefferson had a team-high four ground balls, with Gaddis, Chase Robertson, Ethan Pratt, and Beau Henson totaling three apiece.

"Tough loss today to a talented Queens team," said coach Albert Mitchell. "Our focus now turns to Coker next week."

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 22) as they travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on the Coker University Cobras. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
