Men's Lacrosse Loses Tough Game to Lander 17-15

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's lacrosse team lost a hard-fought match to the visiting Lander University Bearcats on Saturday (Feb. 12) by a score of 17-15 at Spero Financial Field.

Anderson was able to jump out to an early 4-0 lead in the first few minutes, as Matt Morgenroth, Logan Gaddis, Beau Henson, and Jack Goldstein each scored for the Trojans. At the end of the first period, Anderson led Lander 5-4.

As the Bearcats started to battle back, the Trojans were able to respond thanks to a pair of clutch goals in the second period from Triston Schaffer, including a man-up goal, as the game was tied 8-8 heading into halftime.

In the second half, senior Beau Henson stepped up for the Trojans with four goals, including one man-up score. However, the Bearcats opened up the fourth period with five unanswered goals, extending the lead to 17-13, and eventually winning the match by a score of 17-15.

Beau Henson led Anderson with five goals scored. Triston Schaffer, Garrett Hawkins, Matt Morgenroth, and Logan Gaddis each scored twice. All-American faceoff specialist Cam Weeks won 29 of his 36 faceoffs with 20 ground balls, while Peyton Jefferson and Triston Schaffer led the team with two caused turnovers.

"Tough loss to a great Lander team today," said coach Albert Mitchell. "Our focus now turns to Young Harris on Wednesday."

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 16) as they travel to Young Harris. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
