Trojans Six Game Winning Streak Ends at LR 15-9

HICKORY, N.C. – The Anderson University men's lacrosse team's six-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday (Mar. 16) in a 15-9 loss at nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne.

It was a rainy Wednesday evening in Hickory, N.C. as the Trojans put their six-game winning streak on the line against the Bears. Anderson started off hot in the first quarter, as Garrett Hawkins, Cam Weeks, and Nick Calabrese each scored to put the Trojans on top 3-0 after the first 15 minutes of play.

Nick Calabrese scored his second goal of the match in the opening minutes of the second quarter to make it 4-0. However, the Bears responded with five unanswered goals to take the lead for the first time. With 27 seconds left, Garrett Hawkins scored his second goal to tie the game at five heading into halftime. Lenoir-Rhyne carried that momentum into the second half, outscoring Anderson 10-4 in the final two quarters to propel themselves to the 15-9 victory.

Cam Weeks won 19 of his 27 faceoff attempts while picking up 14 ground balls. After his eighth GB tonight, Weeks reached the 300 career GB milestone in just 18 games played at Anderson.

Garrett Hawkins scored three goals tonight for Anderson, while Ryley Zopfi and Nick Calabrese each scored twice. Defensively, Peyton Jefferson and Chase Robertson each caused two turnovers, and goalie Joey Heckel totaled 16 saves.

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 19) as they play host to the Wingate Bulldogs. Opening faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m. at Spero Financial Field, with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
