Trojans Fall to Florida Southern 23-12

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's lacrosse team dropped their season opening match against Florida Southern on Friday (Feb. 4) by a score of 23-12.

The Trojans were able to jump out to an early 4-3 lead after the end of the first period thanks to two man-up goals by the Calabrese brothers, Max and Nick. Action picked up in the second period as both teams combined for 13 goals, nine of which were scored by Florida Southern as they went into halftime with a 12-8 advantage.

Florida Southern kept their momentum in the second half, outscoring Anderson 11 to four in the final 30 minutes to propel themselves to a 23-12 victory.

"Tough loss, but we learned a lot about ourselves tonight," said coach Albert Mitchell. "We are excited to get back to work next week."

Beau Henson led the Trojans with five goals, while freshman Triston Schaffer finished with four. They each had two assists while Logan Gaddis led the team with four. Goalie Joey Heckel totaled 11 saves.

The Trojans will play host to Lander University on Saturday (Feb. 12) at Spero Financial Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
