Hanson, de Castro and Dotson Named Jimmy John’s Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University senior Whitney Hanson, along with freshmen Elliot Dotson and Alejandro de Castro, have been named the Jimmy John's Co-Athletes of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.

Dotson, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., ran a 13:57.18 in the 5,000m at the Virginia Challenge to set a new Anderson school record and punch his ticket to the NCAA National Championships in Colorado (May 25-27). This time breaks his own school record by 13 seconds and ranks Dotson at the top of true freshmen in the NCAA for the event.

Hanson, a senior from Colstrip, Mont., ran a time of 11:04.06 on the 3,000m steeplechase event at the Georgia Tech Invitational to place second overall. This mark ranks Hanson first in the South Atlantic Conference and first in the entire southeast region.

De Castro, a freshman from St. Esteve Sesrovires, Spain, led wire-to-wire en route to winning individual medalist honors at the South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championships and leading the Trojans to the program's first-ever league title. De Castro captured his first career championship by three shots over teammates Reece Coleman and Calahan Keever, with his three-round 207 setting the program record for a SAC Tournament appearance.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
