Men’s Golf in First Place after Day One of LMU’s Spring Kick-off

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Paced by junior Calahan Keever's tournament-leading two-round, 8-under-par 136, the No. 1-ranked Anderson men's golf team is in first place following the first two rounds of Lincoln Memorial's Spring Kick-off Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by the Railsplitters on a 7,136 yard, par-72 St. Johns Golf and Country Club layout.

"We are excited about our level of play today and excited to be leading the field after 36 holes," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "Calahan (Keever) played extremely well shooting 69-67 and leads all players going into tomorrow's final round. Reece (Coleman) and Alejandro (de Castro) continue to play strong, steady golf. Simon (Wright) and Daniel (Coker) provided strong performances as well. Our goal is to finish strong tomorrow and continue to set records by acquiring our fifth straight team win."

The top-ranked Trojans lead Palm Beach Atlantic by nine strokes heading into Tuesday's final round, and hold an 11-shot lead over third-place Belmont Abbey. No. 12 Georgia Southwestern is two shots further back in fourth place, with Columbus State holding the fifth spot. No. 9 North Georgia and Newberry are deadlocked in sixth place, while No. 21 Lincoln Memorial is in eighth place.
No. 24 Limestone and Lander share ninth place, while Coker and Lynn are tied for the 11th slot.

Flagler, Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne, Catawba and King round out the 17-team field.

Keever, who is ranked 13th nationally and seeking his second first-place finish of the year – and first career title - matched the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in program history with a first-round 69 and a second-round 67. He leads Belmont Abbey's Jack Warren (67-70=137) by one shot, while LMU's George Durken (67-72=139) and Palm Beach's Andrew Riley (69-70=139) are three strokes behind Keever.

Nationally seventh-ranked Reece Coleman is tied for sixth place following a 36-hole 142, while freshman Alejandro de Castro (70-73=143) shares eighth place. Junior Daniel Coker (72-74=146) is in a five-way tie for 23rd place, while freshman Sam Norris, who is playing as an individual, carded a two-round 142 and is tied for 64th place. Sophomore Simon Wright (79-74=153) is alone in 69th place, with senior Parker MacDonald, who is also playing as an individual, carded a two-round 160 and shares 90th place.

The final round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
