Coleman Wins Georgia Southwestern’s Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – Behind the sixth-lowest three-round score in program history, Anderson senior Reece Coleman claimed his first outright individual tournament championship, while the team moved up four spots and shared fourth place, Tuesday at the 8th Annual Hurricane Invitational.

Georgia Southwestern hosted the two-day, 54-hole tournament, which featured seven of the top-20 teams in the nation at the 7,024-yard, par-72 Doublegate Country Club.

"Our win streak as a team came to an end this week," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "We failed to take advantage of the good weather in the first round yesterday and dug ourselves into a hole. The wind blew strong in the afternoon round and I thought our guys handled that pretty well. We missed some opportunities to get up and down around the greens and didn't putt particularly well. On the brighter side, Reece won the tournament! He showed a lot of grit eagling his third-to-last hole to take the lead. We will get back to work and prepare for our next event in Greenwood."

Sixth-ranked North Georgia led wire-to-wire and finished five shots in front of eighth-ranked Nova Southeastern. The host Hurricanes move up four spots and finished third, while the Trojans and Columbus State shared fourth place. Clayton State, Flagler, Carson-Newman and Tampa all finished tied for sixth place, with Florida Southern, Coker, King, Erskine, Valdosta State, West Georgia, Lenoir-Rhyne and North Greenville rounding out the 17-team field.

Coleman edged North Georgia's Evan Thompson and Tampa's Jonty Marshall by one stroke, while Nova Southeastern's Josep Serra and Carson-Newman's Hayden Hunneke finished one shot further back in a tie for fourth place.

Junior Calahan Keever leapt 17 spots on the strength of a final-round 4-under 68 and finished in a tie for 10th place, while freshman Alejandro de Castro finished alone in 27th place. Junior Daniel Coker wrapped up the tourney in a tie for 57th place, with senior Parker MacDonald sharing 67th place.

The Trojans will get back in action at next week's Bearcat Classic, which will be hosted by Lander at the Greenwood Country Club.
