Men’s Golf Adds Marquee Event to Fall Slate

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's golf team has added a marquee tournament to its fall schedule, as the Trojans have announced that they will host – alongside Erskine – the 2022 McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational at the Currahee Club in Toccoa, Ga.

"We couldn't be more excited to be the title sponsor for the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Golf Tournament, said McCoy Wright Commercial Real Estate President, John Wright. "This is a great opportunity to bring together some incredible programs to one of the most incredible courses in the area. Currahee Club offers first-class facilities and amenities for its members and I am proud to be associated as both a member and property owner. We were honored to be able to put our name on one of the premier golf tournaments in the southeast and excited to watch these young men compete at a high level!"

Thirteen of the top 50 teams in the nation, including four of the top-10 squads in the country, will assemble in the mountains of northeast Georgia for the 54-hole, two-day tournament, Oct. 24-25, with the addition of another quality team expected in the coming weeks.

"We are so excited to be hosting this new event with Erskine at the Currahee Club," said Anderson Associate Head Coach Denton Moore. "We want to thank John Wright and McCoy Wright Corporate Real Estate for being the title sponsor. Their help is allowing us to host a premier event at a premier facility. John is a fantastic person and does so much for the community here in Anderson. We are so fortunate to have him step in and help us provide a tournament and venue for some of the best NCAA D-II teams in the southeast. Next, we are so thankful for John Hines and his staff for allowing us to play this tournament at Currahee. It is an elite venue and will allow these golfers to play a course that we don't always have the opportunity to play. John and his staff do a great job running tournaments, and we are really looking forward to this partnership for years to come."

A Jim Fazio-designed golf course, Currahee features par-72, 7,513-yard championship tees and has been named as one of the "Top 100 Residential Courses in America" by Golfweek in six of the last seven years and was tabbed "Golf Club of the Year" in 2018 by Lux Life Magazine. In 2015, the National Golf Course Owners Association named Currahee the No. 1 Golf Club in Georgia and among the top-4 in the USA.

"Currahee Club couldn't be more excited to host, alongside Anderson University and Erskine College, the 2022 McCoy Wright Currahee Invitational," said Currahee Director of Golf, John Hines. "We are thrilled to be able to invite so many quality institutions, their players and coaches to our property and championship golf course. We anticipate a great and memorable event, as well as a partnership for years to come."

"Currahee is the type of course we have been looking for over the past few years to host an event," added Moore. "It offers an elite venue and a very stern test of golf. We are really looking forward to hosting some of the best D-II teams in the country, and seeing how they operate at this venue. It is just a great opportunity to showcase a phenomenal golf course, while also providing a fantastic experience for the players and coaches. I believe we have started something very special, and I can't wait to see how this event evolves over the coming years."
