Top-Ranked Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at LMU’s Tennessee River Rumble

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – Paced by Senior Reece Coleman's 2-under-par 214, the No. 1-ranked Anderson men's golf team wrapped up the regular season with a seventh-place finish, Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial's Tennessee River Rumble.

The Railsplitters hosted the two-day, 54-hole event at the Wind River Golf Course on a par-72, 7,065-yard layout.

"We couldn't get any positive momentum going in today's round," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "We continued to struggle with the greens, got a few bad breaks and followed birdies with bogeys or worse. To finish seventh in this field was very disappointing, especially considering the South Atlantic Conference teams that beat us. Hopefully, this hard lesson will give our guys the spark they need to focus on the specific things they need to work on as we prepare for the SAC Championship and beyond in the post season."

North Georgia topped the 20-team field, which included five of the top-25 teams in the nation. The Nighthawks out-distanced runner-up Lee by six strokes, with Clayton State finishing third. Carson-Newman claimed the fourth spot, followed by the host Railsplitters. Coker and Anderson finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with Newberry taking home eighth place. Belmont Abbey finished ninth, while Lander claimed the 10th slot.

Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone finished 11th and 12th, respectively, while Erskine was 13th. Missouri-St. Louis, King, Wingate, Lincoln Memorial (B), Young Harris, North Greenville and Maryville rounded out the field.

North Georgia's Evan Thompson (70-66-70-206) claimed individual medalist honors by a single stroke over Lander's Linus Jonsson (69-68-70-207), with North Georgia's Noah Zediker (69-70-70-209), Lee's Beck Burnette (69-71-69-209) and Carson-Newman's Hayden Hunneke (66-72-71-209) finishing in a three-way tie for third place.

Coleman finished in a four-way tie for 13th, with freshman Alejandro de Castro claiming a share of 17th place. Juniors Daniel Coker and Calahan Keever finished in a tie for 37th place, while sophomore Simon Wright claimed a share of 83rd place.

The Trojans will be seeking the school's first South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship, when they tee off in Hickory, N.C., April 16-18.
