Men’s Golf Readies for AFLAC Cougar Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – On the heels of a season-opening statement win in the hills of North Georgia, the Anderson University men's golf team is slated to return to the Peach State for the second time in a week – this time near the shores of the Chattahoochee River and Lake Oliver – for the AFLAC Cougar Invitational – which will be hosted by Columbus State at the Green Island Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament (Par 70 – 6,512 Yards) is scheduled for 36 holes on Monday, followed by a final round of 18 on Tuesday.

Junior Calahan Keever, who was named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, finished in a tie for first in Gainesville after equaling the school record with a 54-hole 206 and leading the Trojans to the Mizuno Intercollegiate title.

Facing a field that included twelve of Golfstat's top 25 teams and five of the top-10 ranked squads in the nation, the Trojans led wire-to-wire behind a school-record, three-round 846 and claimed their first tourney victory since opening the 2020-21 campaign by winning West Georgia's Matt Dyas Invitational.

Keever, who was edged by West Florida's Elias Haavisto on the second playoff hole, dueled with teammate Reece Coleman either at or near the top of the leaderboard throughout the three rounds. Coleman finished alone in third place, just one shot off the pace, with his first and second-round 135 matching the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history and was just one stroke off his own school-record 134, which he set during the 2019 Donald Ross Intercollegiate.

Freshman Alejandro de Castro claimed a share of 26th place in his first collegiate outing, while sophomore Simon Wright finished in a seven-way tie for 50th place. Senior Parker MacDonald wrapped up the tournament with a share of 57th place.

Keever and Coleman now share the school record for 54-holes, with each holding 206s.
