Trojans Split Doubleheader With Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Pfeiffer scored five runs in its final three innings to take a 5-2 victory over Anderson College in the second game and gain a split of a CVAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon. In the first game, Anderson scored six runs in the seventh inning and received a solid relief job from Gib Bethea to beat the Falcons, 10-8. Anderson trailed 7-2 entering the seventh inning of the first game. The Trojans opened the seventh by loading the bases. Caleb Owen singled, Jacob Reid walked, and Donavon Schmidt singled to load the bases for AC. A single by Clint Neville scored Owen and a walk by F.A. Vildosola scored Reid to cut Pfeiffer's lead to 7-4. After one out, Cody Nye provided a two-run single, Vildosola scored on a wild pitch and Don Ballard singled to score Nye to give Anderson an 8-7 lead. Bethea took over for starter Desmond Robson in the seventh and allowed one hit and struck out one in 2 2/3 innings to earn his first save. Owen had four hits in six trips, while Schmidt, Neville, and Jonathan Pitts all had two hits apiece for Anderson. Pitts had two doubles and drove in two runs. In the second game, Anderson led 2-0 through three innings, but Pfeiffer scored a single run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth to pull out the victory. Pfeiffer was led by Blake Jordan, who hit a solo homer in the fifth, and Jordan Taylor, who had an RBI single in the fifth. Anderson is now 12-18 overall and 3-7 in the CVAC, while Pfeiffer stands at 13-17, 4-7. The third game of the series will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
