Cato's Single Is Game Winner For The Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. - Bryan Cato singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to bring home the winning run and give Anderson College a 5-4 non-conference victory over Limestone College Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Anderson, 1-3 overall, trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the ninth. Cody Nye led off the inning with a single. Pinch-runner Josh Harrison then moved to second on a sacrifice and advanced to third on a ground out. Jacob Reid then reached on an error to bring Harrison home with the tying run. In the Anderson 11th, Harrison rapped a two-out single to center and moved to second when Creg Green walked. Cato, senior from Leesville, S.C., followed Green with a sharp grounder up the middle for the game winning hit. Limestone had eight hits to Anderson's six. Gib Bethea picked up the victory for the Trojans by allowing just two hits and striking out three in four innings of relief. Anderson starter Nate Miller scattered six hits in seven innings but yielded to Bethea in the eighth. The Saints, 0-4 overall, received a strong relief effort from Jamie Langford, who allowed just one run and two hits in six innings. Mitch House led Limestone's offense with three hits in five trips. Nye, who was 2-for-3, was the only Anderson player with more than one hit. Limestone generated a run in the fifth to retake the lead at 4-3. Travis Clary reached on an error, stolen second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by David Wise. The Trojans tied the game at 3 in the fourth on a leadoff walk to Nye, a bunt single by Green, a fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly by Reid. Anderson used three walks, a single, and a wild pitch to scratch out two runs in the third and cut the Limestone lead to 3-2. The Saints increased their lead to 3-0 in the third on a leadoff double by Clary and two ground outs. Limestone grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on a leadoff single by House, a one-out triple to right by Matt Reel, and a two-out RBI single by Rob Boulknight.
