Vildosola Hits For The Cycle; AC Downs Eagles

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Senior first baseman F.A. Vildosola hit for the cycle, including a two-out, game-winning triple in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Anderson College to an 8-7 victory over Southern Indiana in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Anderson, 11-14 overall, trailed 7-2 after three innings but three Anderson pitchers -- Brad Owens, Brett Youngblood, and Mike Farotto -- combined to blank the Screaming Eagles in the final six innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Jacob Reid reached on a fielder's choice and Donavon Schmidt singled to put runners at first and third. Reid scored on a sacrifice fly by Clint Neville and then Schmidt scored on Vidosola's triple. Vildosola, a native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., had a double in the first, a single in the sixth, a two-run homer in the eighth, and the game-winning triple in the ninth. Vildosola finished the game with four RBI. It was the first time in AC head coach Joe Miller's career that an AC player has hit for the cycle. The Eagles, 3-5 overall, got off to a hot start with a two-run homer to center field Matt Keener in the first and a three-run homer by Justin Wolfe in the third. Both Keener and Wolfe finished the game with two hits apiece. Anderson had 13 hits to eight for Southern Indiana. The victory was Anderson's third in a row.
