Trojans, Blue Hose Split Doubleheader

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Senior Nat McCarty pitched a four-hitter in the seven-inning second game to lead Anderson College to a 7-1 victory over Presbyterian in the second game and a split of a non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. In the first game, pinch-hitter Nick Hoffner rapped a one-out double to score pinch-runner Tyson Baxter in the top of the ninth and give the Blue Hose a 7-6 victory over the Trojans. Anderson is now 5-10, while Presbyterian is 3-11. In the first game, the Blue Hose jumped on Anderson starter Desmond Robson for two runs in the first then took advantage of sloppy Anderson fielding to score two unearned runs in the fourth, and two more runs -- one earned and one unearned -- in the fifth. The big hit in the fourth for the Blue Hose was a two-out, two-run single by Robert Rodebaugh. Trailing 6-3, Anderson scored two runs in the seventh and a single run in the eighth to tie the game at 6. Donavon Schmidt and F.A. Vildosola both had RBI singles in the seventh and Schmidt had another run-scoring single in the eighth. Rodebaugh led off the Presbyterian ninth with a single. He was replaced by Baxter, who moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on Hoffner's double. Rodebaugh and Lance Howard had two hits apiece for the Blue Hose in the first game and Rodebaugh collected three RBI. Robert Cook replaced starter Ryan Ariall in the seventh and allowed three hits and one run in 2 1/3 innings to pick up the victory. Anderson had 11 hits in the first game to 10 for Presbyterian. The lone home run in the first game was a solo shot by Anderson's Jonathan Pitts with two outs in the third. In the second game, Kyle Lewis and Clint Neville drove in two runs apiece for the Trojans. Lewis had a two-run triple in the third, and Neville hit a two-run homer in the fourth. McCarty struck out five, walked two, and hit two. He got out of bases-loaded jams in both the third and the fifth. He retired nine of the final 10 he faced to secure the victory for the Trojans.
