Anderson, Newberry Split Doubleheader

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Anderson College scored seven runs in the first two innings and went to post a 10-3 seven-inning victory over Newberry in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans, 9-14 overall, got a three-run homer from Jonathan Pitts in the first inning of the second game to jump on top of the Indians. After Newberry, 7-13 overall, scored two runs in the home half of the first, Anderson added four more runs in the second. Caleb Owen and Donavon Schmidt both had RBI doubles in the inning. Anderson added two more runs in the fifth on a single by Pitts, a double by Cody Nye, and a ground out. Aaron Griffith allowed three runs and surrendered nine hits in six innings to pick up the victory for Anderson. In the first seven-inning game, Newberry scored three runs in the second and rode the pitching of Pete Stupiello for a 4-1 victory. The Indians scored their three runs in the second on a solo homer by Clark Mullins and a two-run homer by Brandon Brown. Stupiello allowed four hits and struck out two to pitch a complete seven-inning game for Newberry. Anderson's Nate Miller lost his second consecutive decision by a 4-1 score.
