Rettinger Named Head Trainer At AC

ANDERSON, S.C. - Vanessa Rettinger has been named head athletic trainer at Anderson College, AC athletic director Bobby Beville announced Friday morning. "Vanessa has been our assistant trainer for the past year and she has served our programs well," Beville said. "She is a dedicated trainer who has made a major contribution to our athletic programs. We are pleased she has accepted the position of head athletic trainer." Rettinger replaces Walt McCurry, who resigned July 26 to take another position in the Anderson area. Rettinger joined the Anderson program as an assistant trainer in the summer of 2003. She came to AC after two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Clemson University. At Clemson, she was responsible for coordinating all aspects of sports medicine for the women's soccer team and the men's tennis team. During her time at Clemson, she earned a masters degree in counseling. Rettinger earned a B.S. in athletic training from Wingate University in 2001. While at Wingate, she was the head student athletic trainer from the fall of 1999 to the spring of 2001. She also played on the Wingate tennis team and served as an assistant coach for the team. During her career, Rettinger has served as the head athletic trainer for the Charlotte Eagles, a Division II men's professional soccer team, and has conducted fitness tests for the Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League.
