Whitaker Finishes Second in 800m at SAC Outdoor Championships

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's track and field team completed day two of the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday (May. 4) at the AU Track Complex. The Trojans totaled six top-five finishes on the second day, including a podium finish from Emma Whitaker in the 800m. As a team, Anderson finished seventh with 48.5 points.

Emma Whitaker headlined day two for the Trojans by finishing second in the 800m (2:15.77) for the silver medal, while Olivia Rish recorded a top-five finish with a mark of 2:19.76. Lacey Boozer recorded a top-five finish as well in the 400m with a time of 57.12. Olivia Rish took fourth in the 1,500m (4:40.18) while Elise Matthews came in the top-10 at a pace of 4:48.20. 

In the 5,000m, Emily Golden led the Trojans by finishing ninth at 18:17.18. Mclayne Wyatt (18:40.99) and Elise Matthews (18:46.73) took 13th and 14th place. Lucy Schmitt (19:22.29), Hagan Wilson (19:27.63), Emma Whitaker (19:56.44), and Hannah Reedy (20:34.53) rounded things out for Anderson. Sarah Wimpee recorded a top-five in the discus throw with a distance of 38.85m, and 11th in the shot put at 10.85m. Georgia Piper took seventh in the high jump (1.50m). 

The women's 4x400m relay team consisting of Brianna Quartararo, Lacey Boozer, Joeli Hayden, and Autumn Bladen finished fifth with a combined time of 3:57.56. Meanwhile, the 4x100m team (Hayden, Boozer, Quartararo, and Lauren Childers finished sixth (50.35). 

"We had a lot of great individual performances over the past two days," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We had two school records broken, five podium finishes, and a ton of lifetime bests. Our teams left everything out on the track and it showed in the results. We know that there is a lot of room for growth amongst the team and we are all ready to put in the work to see even better results."
