Women's Track 4x400m Relay Sets School Record at LRU Home Opener

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University women's track and field team had a strong showing in the first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday (Feb. 27) as the Trojans were able to set several personal bests and a new school record in the 4x400m relay at the LRU Home Opener.

On day one, Lauren Pernell won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:14.73. In the 5000m run, Elise Matthews (18:29.19), Hannah Beach (18:35.94), and Hagan Wilson (19:03.37) all recorded top 10 finishes. Katie Landry finishes in sixth place in the shot put with a heave of 10.92m.

Day two was very successful for the Trojans as the 4x400m relay team of Emma Deadwyler, Kamryn Osterbind, Joeli Hayden, and Brianna Quartararo combined for a time of 4:01.03, setting a new Anderson school record. In the 1500m run, Osterbind (4:56.31) and Matthews (4:56.61) finished in sixth and seventh place respectively. Landry finished in third place in the 100m hurdles by completing a mark of 16.12. Deadwyler (58.74) and Quartararo (59.61) finished in fifth and sixth place in the 400m dash. 

In the field, Landry recorded a distance of 33.67m in the javelin throw, as Pernell finished at 26.36m. Pernell also finished in third place with a distance of 1.45m in the high jump.

"It was a fantastic weekend for the women," said coach Kevin Eagle. "It was capped off perfectly with a new school record in the 4x400m relay. These ladies had this as a goal to accomplish this season. To do this in the first outdoor meet of the season, it shows that they are ready to do special things this season. With this record and so many other personal bests, I cannot say enough how proud I am of this team."

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 6) as they travel to Central, S.C. for the Susan Rouse Invitational. Live results can be found at www.autrojans.com
